The new Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE)
3 March 08
The Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) will replace the Senior Certificate that students previously received at the end of Year 12. Students' achievements in academic subjects, the workplace, vocational training, university and community participation will be recorded as credit points. They will need to get at least 20 credits to receive the certificate and meet minimum literacy and numeracy standards. Students are allowed to complete outstanding credits up to the age of twenty-four years.
The aim of the QCE is for students to benefit from a stronger link between school and career, through greater recognition of vocational education. If you are a student interested in a trade-based career, you may choose a tailored training program during your senior education. If you are seeking a university placement, choosing advanced academic courses would better pave the way towards a degree. In other words, the QCE recognises the need for more flexibility in the way young people learn and better reflects today's diverse workforce and career opportunities. Schools are also looking to form closer links with universities, TAFE colleges and employers to support their students.
