Sun Smart Schools

Exposure to the sun during childhood has been found to considerably increase a person's chances of developing skin cancer later in life.  As part of Education Queensland's Sun Safety Strategy, State primary school students will benefit from the latest requirement to wear sun shirts or "rashies", plus water-resistant SPF 30+ sunscreen for water activities.  This requirement is in addition to wearing sunscreen whenever they go outdoors during school hours.  Catholic and Independent schools across Queensland are also in support of students wearing sun shirts, hats and high protection sunscreen.  All school sectors work with the Cancer Council Queensland to develop their sun protection policies and strategies.  For more information visit www.education.qld.gov.au/schools/healthy/swimshirts-sunscreen.html
