Internet Safety

Young people spend a lot of time online and whilst there are benefits, there are also risks.  Understanding the issues children may face on the internet and how parents, carers and the community can deal with them is very important.  To this end, Immanuel Lutheran College is providing the opportunity to learn about the online issues affecting young people from the Australian Government's internet safety initiative, NetAlert.

NetAlert's educational trainer, Greg Gebhart will present to parents, grandparents, carers and the community about the online activities and behaviours of young people and the risks they face on the internet.  The range of issues to be covered include:

-   helping parents understand the ways children use the internet
-   tips and tricks to reduce the risks for children
-   potential issues faced by children online, such as the exposure to illegal and inappropriate content; cyber-bullying
-   questionable dvertising and marketing practices
-   new trends in social networking websites and use of mobile technologies such as camera 'phones

The presentation will take place on Tuesday, 28 April at 7.00 pm in the lecture theatre of the Ken Thamm Centre, Immanuel Lutheran College, Wises Road, Maroochydore.  To register your attendance, please call Naomi Beutel on 5477 3430.  You can also register on the night.

You can also check out www.netalert.gov.au for more help and information on this increasingly important set of issues.
