The following diploma courses are being offered in the area of Laboratory on the Sunshine Coast:



Sunshine Coast Institute of TAFE

Diploma of Laboratory Technology

Location: Mooloolaba Campus

Program duration: Two Semesters full-time, commencing July

Entry Requirements: Completion of Certificate III in Laboratory Skills preferable or completed biology and chemistry to a Year 11 level.


This program prepares students for work in the laboratory industry. Career opportunities include microbiological testing, biotechnology, chemical analysis.

University of the Sunshine Coast & Southbank Institute of Technology

Diploma of Laboratory Technology (Biological and Environmental Testing) / Bachelor of Coastal Studies

Location: Combined program

Program duration: 3.5 Years full-time, or equivalent part-time

Entry Requirements: Rank - 50

Mid-year intake: No

On successful completion of the Diploma of Laboratory Technology (Biological and Environmental Testing) at Southbank Institute of Technology you will continue your studies in the Bachelor of Coastal Studies at the University of the Sunshine Coast.The Bachelor of Coastal Studies offers you an integrated, in-depth program of coastal studies including:
- marine and coastal processes
- coastal vulnerability
- conservation and natural resources
- environmental management
- sustainability planning
- policy making

Diploma of Laboratory Technology (Biotechnology / Pathology) / Bachelor of Biomedical Science

Location: Combined program

Program duration: 3.5 Years full-time, or equivalent part-time

Entry Requirements: Rank - 50

Mid-year intake: No

On successful completion of the Diploma of Laboratory Technology (Biotechnology / Pathology) at Southbank Institute of Technology you will continue your studies in the Bachelor of Science at the University of the Sunshine Coast.The diploma is designed to develop the knowledge and skills you require to perform routine laboratory procedures in the biotechnology/ pathology sector, while the Bachelor of Biomedical Science provides you with an understanding of how the human body works and what happens when things go wrong.
