Civil engineering students learn how to design, construct, operate, maintain and recycle the physical and natural environments.
This program provides you with a broad foundation in engineering and enabling sciences before specialising in either construction or environment and water. You develop problem solving, teamwork and communication skills; and technical, business management, and scientific environmental knowledge. You are exposed to current engineering professional practice, with emphasis on the creative nature of engineering and the need and ability to work anywhere in the world.
Students in the Bachelor of Civil Engineering may be awarded with Merit Honours. The class of Merit Honours awarded to a student will be dependent on the students Grade Point Average (GPA) and the result achieved in the Engineering Project courses.
Bachelor of Clinical Exercise Science
Program duration: 4 Years full-time, or equivalent part-time
Commence mid-year: No
USCs clinical exercise science program provides you with a pathway to become an accredited exercise physiologist. The program is one of only a few in Australia that have been developed to meet the guidelines of the Accredited Exercise Physiologist qualification, as established by the Australian Association for Exercise and Sports Science (AAESS). During this program, you will gain knowledge and understanding of many aspects of exercise and sport science, including specific studies in anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathophysiology, biomechanics, psychology, motor learning, sports nutrition and sports coaching.
Bachelor of Early Childhood Education
Program duration: 4 Years full-time, or equivalent part-time
Commence mid-year: No
The Bachelor of Early Childhood Education leads to a career in early childhood education in settings such as long day-care centres, kindergartens and the early years of primary school. First-year students focus on the foundations for early childhood teaching practices, with an emphasis on work placements and wider field experience with children aged from birth to three years. Students learn to build on and integrate essential knowledge and teaching practices for each age group, including the kindergarten year. The final year focuses on the transition to the early phase of learning in primary school contexts.
Study contemporary early childhood developmental psychology and early learning theories. Discover education for sustainability and integration of science and educational policy perspectives. Develop a strong focus on building family and community partnerships; and promoting citizenship in the local and global community. Enhance knowledge by embedding Indigenous perspectives, inclusivity and diversity. Examine early years intervention strategies, diagnostic and pedagogical approaches and authentic assessment practice. Learn to immerse children in literacy, numeracy, science education and play-based learning.
Program duration: 3 Years full-time, or equivalent part-time
Commence mid-year: Yes
To train to become a registered teacher, refer to the combined degrees of Bachelor of Education with Bachelor of Arts, Business or Science. The Bachelor of Education does not accredit graduates for teacher registration in Australian States but may be suitable for those undertaking training opportunities, teaching in private industry or education consultancy. It may be considered as a prerequisite program for entering an accredited teacher education program, and also provides professional development opportunities for teachers, training, and educators who are already accredited with a teacher registration authority.
Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical)
Program duration: 4 Years full-time, or equivalent part-time
Commence mid-year: No
Become a mechanical engineer and qualify for registration with Engineers Australia.
In partnership with University of Southern Queensland (USQ), this program includes foundation studies in engineering and the sciences, and courses leading to competence in engineering research, engineering design, and operation and management of engineering systems. It offers practical real-world applications of the course materials, and guest lecturers from industry ensure high-level exposure to current engineering professional practice. It also provides the necessary foundation to enter research or coursework-based postgraduate programs.
Studies incorporate many professional skills, such as working in diverse teams, written and oral communication, and managing projects in a sustainable way. Students are encouraged to find suitable vacation work experience to support their studies; and to attend overseas universities to undertake equivalent studies that count towards their program at USC. Students may be awarded with Merit Honours. The class of Merit Honours awarded will be dependent on the students Grade Point Average (GPA) and the result achieved in the Engineering Project courses.
Bachelor of Environmental Science
Program duration: 3 Years full-time, or equivalent part-time
Commence mid-year: Yes
In the Bachelor of Environmental Science, you will study the interaction between organisms and their environment, both natural and artificial. Courses focus on these natural and human-managed environments, the interactions between them, and the management of the interactions. On graduating, you will have the scientific-base required to make valid judgements on the preservation and utilisation of Australias natural ecosystems and resources, and will have experience in practical applications of environmental management techniques. The program is based on the foundation sciences, toolbox courses that provide relevant practical skills, and specialist courses that equip graduates to enter selected fields of environmental management.
