National Playgroup Week
21 to 27 March 2010

National Playgroup Week raises awareness of playgroup, and the importance of play in the community. In 2010, National Playgroup Week will be bigger and better than ever, with extra events held around Australia.

 

National Youth Week
10 to 18 April 2010

National Youth Week (NYW) is the largest single celebration of young people on the Australian calendar. NYW aims to encourage all young Australians aged 12-25 to celebrate their youth, recognise the contributions they make to their communities and provide an opportunity for young Australians to voice concerns or issues relevant to them.


APRIL

Global Campaign for Education Action Week

Promotes education as a basic human right and aims to mobilise the international community to provide free, compulsory public basic education for all people; in particular for children, women and all disadvantaged, deprived sections of society.


 MAY

National Families Week
1010 dates to be advised

National Families Week is timed to coincide with the United Nations International Day of Families on 15 May. This day is observed by the United Nations to mark the importance that the international community places on families as the most fundamental units of society, as well as to draw attention to the plight of families in many parts of the world.

 

National Career Development Week (NCDW)
17 to 23 May 2010
The aim of the week is to promote awareness of career development and the need to develop skills to manage our own careers.


Australia's Biggest Morning Tea
27 May 2010

Join over 1 million Australians and take a break to fight cancer. By simply hosting a morning tea in your office, home, club or school and inviting your guests for a cuppa, you can make a difference to the lives of Australians affected by cancer each year. Every cup counts!


World No Tobacco Day
31 May 2010

WNTD is a global initiative by the World Health Organization to create community awareness about tobacco issues. This year, the Quit Partnership, a joint collaboration between Cancer Council Queensland and Queensland Health, is promoting the international WNTD theme ‘Tobacco-free Youth'.

 

JUNE

State Education Week
2010 Dates to be advised.

The week-long celebrations are held each year in schools across Queensland and provide an opportunity for Queenslanders to recognise the talent and achievements of students and teachers in state schools.


 Back to School
June 2010

Queenslanders are invited to go Back to School as part of State Education Week celebrations. Back to School provides an opportunity for state school students to be inspired by graduates and gain an insight into how their school prepared them for the future.


National Public Education Week
2010 Dates to be advised

This event celebrates the contribution of teachers, students and parents to Australia 's public education system - preschools, schools and TAFE. Public Education Day has been celebrated since 2000 and is held on the third Thursday in May each year. To find out more, the community can contact your local public school or the relevant public education union in your state.

Adult Learners' Week

Adult Learners' Week is celebrated annually and its aim is to celebrate and promote all forms of adult and lifelong learning with a strong focus on literacy. The week includes hundreds of events and activities designed to promote the benefits of adult and lifelong learning - in the home, at work and in the community. It aims to highlight the many adult learning options available.

 

National Literacy & Numeracy Week

Across Australia, parents, teachers and communities are working together to develop the literacy and numeracy skills of Australia’s young people.

 

OCTOBER

Premier's Reading Challenge Celebration Week
2010 Dates to be advised
The Premier's Reading Challenge is an initiative of the Queensland Government aimed at improving literacy, cultivating a passion for literature and encouraging children to read widely for pleasure and learning.

National Childrens Week

This week is a celebration of the uniqueness and importance of children in our communities.

 

Anti-Poverty Week

2010 Dates to be advised

Poverty and severe hardship affects more than one million Australians; around the world than a billion people are desperately poor. Anti-Poverty Week provides an opportunity to raise awareness about poverty, its causes and its impact, and to raise money to support projects which are working towards solutions.

 

UNICEF Day for Change

Schools across Queensland will be participating in events to support UNICEF Day for Change. This is an opportunity for parents and students to find out more about UNICEF and the difference they can make to vulnerable children all around the world.
