Arts Connect

Arts Connect is a membership-driven association of visual and performing artists that seeks to stimulate and connect people through the arts. Under their umbrella they hold a wide range of classes and workshops as well as organising bus trips to Brisbane for QPAC performances and exhibitions. Monthly meetings are held on second Tuesdays at 6.00 pm at St Mary's Hall. For more info call (07) 5442 9219.

 

Interactive Children's Workshops

Entertainment and education are being combined in a series of interactive children's workshops at The Events Centre, Caloundra to be held monthly for an hour. The cost is $6 and parents enter free of charge. Places will be limited, so please call (07) 5491 4240 or visit www.etixdirect.com.au

 

Heart Foundation

The Heart Foundation has a network of local volunteer speakers available to visit your club, community group or organisation to speak about general heart health. The focus is on the benefits of lifestyle change and practical information on how to go about it. If you would like to invite a speaker to your organisation please contact Margaret on (07) 3872 2507 or if you would like to volunteer as a speaker to help raise awareness of heart health.

 

IGA Sunshine Coast Car Rally for Leukaemia - Sunday, 29 August 2010

The Sunshine Coast has one of the highest rate of patients suffering from luekaemia per capita in Australia.  This is the 4th Year this event has been held. The rally is not a race, but a leisurely mystery tour with entrants required to find their way via questions, clues and checkpoints. The day will kick off with a BBQ breakfast (Gold Coin Donation) and morning tea, lunch and drinks are provided. Families are encouraged and there will be plenty of fun entertainment provided. There are plenty of prizes to be won for best dressed, best dressed car most correct answers and lots more.
 
This year's theme is "Super heroes" - Our local heroes are Super Heroes.  Since this event started in 2007 we have raised in excess of $130000.
 
By keeping this date free and participating in the Rally, it will be helping people with leukaemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, aplastic anaemia, amyloidosis and related blood disorders. The Leukaemia Foundation provides essential support services such as accomodation, transport and emotional support which is provided free of charge to patients and their families while they undergo intensive treatment. $55 pays for one car to transport leukaemia patients to and from treatment centres for one day.

Learn to Dance

Learn Ballroom and Latin dance at three locations - Caloundra (Wednesday) at the Freemasons Centre, 19 Third Avenue; Woombye (Thursday) at the School of Arts Building, Blackall Street and Kawana (Friday) at the Kawana Community Hall, Nanyima Street. Adult Literacy Classes
Maleny Library offers free adult literacy classes for adults needing help with reading, writing and speaking English, everyday numeracy, reading newspapers and filling in forms. Students work with tutors and sometimes in small groups. The course is held weekly on Wednesdays from 12.30 to 3.30 pm. Eligible participants can enrol any time during the year. Solutions Adult Learning Centre
The Centre offers a range of Austudy approved short courses to help adults improve their reading, writing, spelling, numeracy and computer skills, English for non-English speakers, assistance to obtain a dirver's permit and 'Lifeskills Cooking'. Soul Sound Productions for Group and Private Vocal Classes

Soul Sound Productions is now offering Group and Private vocal classes on the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.  These classes are open to all ages, styles, and levels of experience!  Even if you have never sung before, you can learn the joys of singing.  Classes are all about having fun and finding your voice!   Soul Sound Productions also offers a range of services to give clients a great advantage over competition when entering or progressing through the music and audio industries.  These services include coaching, recording, publishing and management. Services can be used individually or taylor made to suit the clients needs.

Heart Foundation Walking Group
Join the Buderim Heart Beats on a walk each week for about one hour in and around Buderim and the Sunshine Coast each Wednesday morning. If you feel like a stroll in the moon, join them for the monthly moon walk. For a copy of the walking program or for more info pls call 0438 194 789.

Buderim Youth Theatre of Excellence (BYTE) Registration
The Buderim Youth Theatre of Excellence begins the new year with its registration afternoon at the Buderim Memorial Hall. BYTE is a great way for children and adolescents (Prep to 17 yrs) to learn acting, musical theatre and dance in a fun environment. Women's Program for Under or Unemployed

Introduction to Bush Tucker Workshop with Dale Chapman

Come along to Apex Park, Cooroy on 24 April, from 9.30 am to 12.00 pm, for the Introduction to Bush Tucker Workshop with Dale Chapman.  You will be taken on a walk and talk tour, learn to recognise local native bush plants followed by bush tucker tasting and yarn with Dale.
 
The group will enjoy a rainbow juice, lemon myrtle tea, wattle seed damper, native jams and experience wild fruits, seeds and meats. Bookings are essential.   $50 per person.

"Into Africa" Fundraiser for the I Live Here Foundation

Local Sunshine Coast businesses and individuals have joined forces to raise funds for this worthy charity and are holding an "Into Africa" Fundraiser on Sunday June 27th. The event will focus on art, education and permaculture simulating the work of the foundation and we encourage everyone to come along, enjoy some amazing food, beverages, entertainment and an exclusive auction.

1x Ticket includes: admission and all nights entertainment, canapes, deserts, tea & coffee, entry to exclusive auction.

*Alcoholic drinks will be available for purchase.*

We will be auctioning paintings and photography donated by local talent, artifacts and items in African theme and selling the amazing stories in the I Live Here official books. Dress to impress for the African Safari themed night and view amazing dancers, entertainers and an Into Africa fashion show!

The Sunshine Coast School of Photography - Photography By Night Course

The Sunshine Coast School of Photography is offering a four week Photography by Night course commencing on 7 July, from 6.00 to 9.00 pm at Shop 1, 3 Conn Street, Yandina and various locations to be discussed in class.  The cost is $360 ($270 for concession and members).  The course is about exploring the light of night-time.  It will cover photographing the ocean at night, landscapes under moonlight and capturing artifically lit urban street scenes.  The course includes - Learning to expose and to use the camera at night; photographing the ocean at night; the landscape at night; working with the light and the tell-tale shadows of night; photographing the urban environment at night and working with man-made illumination; creative flash techniques at night.  For more information go to www.photolearning.com.au or make contact at info@photolearning.com.au; Phone:  0458 975 993.

The Children's Charity Ball  

The Children’s Charity Ball Foundation is a not-for-profit organization, supporting various children’s charities both locally and nationally. It was founded by Penny Panorea the Director of Australian Design Studio, a leading Brisbane advertising agency committed to creating awareness among the community to support and raise funds for children’s charities.

The Children's Charity Ball on 15 October 2010 at the Sebel  and Citi Gate Hotel, Brisbane, will be attended by 250 people and will gain local and national press coverage as well as have a strong online presence. This is a great opportunity to align your firm with a worthy cause.
